VIOLENT CRIME, especially MURDER cannot be tolerated. Victims’ Families and The People of the City of Philadelphia expect the District Attorney’s Office to prosecute MURDERS to the fullest extent of the law. There is no reason, ever, for a person to take another human’s life. It is unacceptable and we must not tolerate it or it will only get worse and is getting worse.

These are the words of Linda Schellenger whose son Sean was murdered by Michael White on July 12, 2018. Michael White was arrested and charged with murder generally, which includes First Degree Murder. These charges were based upon video surveillance, eyewitness statements, and a statement by Michael White. At Michael White’s hearing on Aug. 1, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner reduced the charges against White to Third Degree Murder, asked for a continuance, and agreed to $150,000 bail. Michael White posted the required $15,000 bail and was released on house arrest. Since that hearing, the family believes additional evidence has been discovered that reveals Michael White’s intent to kill. Given this new evidence, the family has asked Larry Krasner to reconsider the original charge in this case in advance of an Oct. 30 preliminary hearing.
