Phase out greyhound racing in South Australia.
The issue
For greyhounds, a simple bet can end in tragedy. Every race, greyhounds are placed at significant risk of sustaining serious injuries including broken legs or hocks, head trauma, or even fatality. Some can even die from cardiac arrest due to the physical intensity of racing and training. Across Australia, over 200 dogs are reported injured each week during official races and many of these injuries are deemed by trainers as uneconomical to treat and will instead have the dogs euthanised. Unfortunately, this unjust treatment doesn't only occur on the track. Every year, around 10,000 greyhounds are bred in Australia in search of finding the fastest dogs. What happens to the dogs who do not meet the standard? They are discarded. A life treated like a disposable object, created purely for the purpose of gambling. Up to 17,000 healthy greyhounds are killed each year across this country. That is 17,000 too many.
With your support, we can fight to save these innocent creatures lives. Sign this petition to make an impact and please share to spread the word. With this petition, I will contact a local MP to raise awareness of the cruelty within the greyhound racing industry and advocate for a phase out of this issue across South Australia.
