⚖️ The Hard Truth Even though agencies are required to advertise that they protect tenants from “retaliation” and “discrimination,” in reality: There is no active enforcement for tenants in Texas — not even for disabled veterans. Landlords can: • Raise your rent after you report a problem, • Threaten or harass you for refusing to sign illegal addenda, • Evict you through intimidation or loopholes, …and the agencies that claim to protect you will simply respond: “No jurisdiction.” ⸻ 💬 This Is Not Just My Story This is a systemic failure that affects every Texan who rents — veterans, seniors, single parents, disabled individuals, pet owners and working families alike. Our laws sound protective, but our enforcement systems are hollow. Every agency I contacted — TDHCA, TREC, TWC, HUD, and the Attorney General — confirmed in writing that they cannot or will not intervene. ⸻ 🚨 The Message to Tenants and Pet Owners Don’t be fooled by slogans or “Know Your Rights” campaigns. Know the reality: Tenants in Texas are virtually unprotected. The burden to fight injustice falls entirely on us — while landlords and management companies operate with legal immunity and exemptions. ⸻ 🇺🇸 From a Veteran’s Family My father served this country honorably and lives with a 100% service-connected disability. If even a disabled Navy veteran can be ignored and unprotected under Texas law, what chance does any regular tenant have? ⸻ ☞Share this. 🗣️Talk about it. ✊🏻Demand reform. 👩‍⚖️Tenants deserve real protection, not fine print and finger-pointing. -⚕️Veterinary Professional 🐾 🩺 🫂Daughter of a — 🇺🇸U.S. Navy Disabled Veteran🇺🇸
