Memphis folks - need your help. And you don't even have to go out in the cold. You just need to email some council members and/or make a phone call before Feb 23. Please.
We know Petland is a company with deep pockets and hard core lobbyists trying to get it's foothold in Memphis to sell dogs/cats. It's bad business.
They're trying to say we're stopping free market/enterprise by denying a specific company -- but truth is we need to stop ALL retail sellers of dogs/cats with an ordinance meant to do that. but Memphis City Council is being "woo'd" by Petland and the AKC.
"Petland is working hard on our councilmembers, and now the AKC has sent in a letter against the ordinance."
Councilman JONES has asked for a discussion to be put back on the committee agenda for this coming Tuesday at like 11 AM - WHICH MEANS THE ORDINANCE MAY NOT PASS!
We need to make sure Council Members understand this is not about stopping JUST Petland - they need to hear that we are not unfairly targeting a particular business (even if it does have a sordid history) but ALL RETAIL SELLERS of dogs/cats in our community (it doesn't matter if it's Petland or Puppy Coral or KIttens R Us).
Memphis says NO to ANY retail SALES OF DOGS/CATS. We cannot let Council Members think the city residents don't care as much as people who live outside of Memphis - and right now, they do.
We need as many MEMPHIS residents as possible to EMAIL and CALL to tell the city council that WE DO NOT WANT ANY PUPPY OR KITTEN SALES IN MEMPHIS. If you live in Memphis and/or have friends and family living in Memphis - WE NEED YOU! PLEASE SHARE THIS CALL TO ACTION, PLEASE ASK YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO DO THE SAME!
