Protection for Christians of Mandi Bahauddin Pakistan
This petition had 301 supporters
The Muslim religious leaders of Mandi Bahuddin have issued an ultimatum to the peace loving Christian community of Chak 44, to either convert to Islam or leave the village (Minorities in Pakistan constantly fear misuse of the blasphemy law). This is an alarming situation. Given the past track record of similar hateful incitements, genocidal riots against Christians in the town of Gojra(Punjab) and Joseph colony(Punjab).
At this hour of social-religious tension and uncertainty, the Awami Worker's Party (AWP) stands with the Christian community of Pakistan and believes that all citizens regardless of their caste, creed or religion have equal citizenship rights. No one must be allowed to persecute a community just because they belong to a different religion.
The AWP is against any kind of religious fundamentalism and sectarianism and would like to remind Pakistani government as well as the international community that it is the responsibility of the state and global community to protect all of its citizens irrespective of their faith.
The AWP calls upon state authorities to immediately bring to justice the culprits who have propagated the message of hate and are threatening the Christian community in Mandi Bahauddin. If anything happens to the already distressed Christian community, the AWP will launch a series of protests and hold the Punjab government accountable. The AWP reassures Christians and other oppressed communities of its struggle for an equal and pluralistic Pakistan.
Join us in asking the Pakistani government to provide security and safety to the Christians of Mandi Bahauddin. We request the government of United Kingdom to urge the government of Pakistan to immediately arrest the culprits and take a stern action on this human rights issue. Religious persecution has no place in a civilised society.
In solidarity, the AWP
