Just two weeks to go until we were told by Surrey County Council that we will receive feedback and further information on the 'Major Project' for improvement works to Cottimore Lane.

Dust off those drums and get ready to start rolling!

In the meantime, we have produced some artist impressions of what Cottimore Lane COULD POTENTIALLY look like IF some of the speed deterrents we are campaigning for are implemented…

TAKE A LOOK AT OUR INDICATIVE VISION ON OUR WEBSITE: cottimorelane.com

The measures we are campaigning for include:

·        Vehicle activated signs

·        Pedestrian refuge islands

·        Slow road markings

·        Flat painted speed bump markings

We would of course rather that such measures were not needed, however on a road where it was shown that...

·        39% of vehicles break the speed limit - more than 1 in 3.

·        The highest recorded speed was a whopping 88MPH.

·        821 vehicles travelled in excess of 40mph over the 154 hours that the 2019 speed survey was conducted on Cottimore Lane - equivalent to 1 every 12 minutes travelling at a speed where if they hit a pedestrian, the pedestrian would have a 90% chance of being killed.

·        Surrey Police identified the issue of speeding on Cottimore Lane as a neighbourhood priority in 2012, since which, there have been over 26 casualties including a number of serious life changing injuries.

·        In August 1998 (over a quarter of a century ago) that Cottimore Lane was “in an area earmarked for traffic calming schemes by Surrey County Council because of its high number of accidents”

·        Comments from residents that have used terms such as ‘scary’, ‘unsafe’, ‘not safe’, ‘very dangerous’, ‘busy dangerous road, ‘it’s like a racetrack’ and ‘there is going to be a serious accident soon’, when raising their concerns about speeding on Cottimore Lane

...unfortunately, such measures are desperately required.

We hope you enjoy the weekend and there will be more updates to follow!

Please stay safe, take care and thank you again for your support.
