A Plea to the People of Welland

Look around you. Walk down the streets you once felt safe on. Look at the parks where children used to play. Look at the doorways and alleys that now belong to violence, open dealing, and despair. Tell me you don’t feel it in your chest — the quiet fear that something precious has been taken from us.We are not cruel people. We care. We have watched neighbours spiral. We have seen the human faces behind the addiction. And for years we have answered with the only tools we were told were compassionate: free food, free needles, more handouts, more tolerance.But compassion without boundaries is not love.
It is abandonment.Handing out needles while the violence continues is not helping the person in the grip of addiction. It is keeping them alive just long enough to keep dying in slow motion. And it is asking the rest of us — the families, the workers, the seniors, the children — to live inside the wreckage.We can do better.
We must do better.Real help means offering a way out: treatment beds that actually exist, housing that demands responsibility, enforcement that stops the violence and the dealing so the streets can be streets again. Real help means saying to the person suffering: “We will walk with you toward recovery — but we will not let the chaos destroy the rest of the community while you find your way.”This is not about punishment.
This is about survival — theirs and ours.If we do nothing, the danger areas will keep expanding. More families will lock their doors earlier. More businesses will leave. More children will grow up believing this is normal. And the people trapped in addiction will stay trapped, because the only thing surrounding them is more of the same.We still have a choice.We can demand order and real recovery. We can clear the danger zones and hold the ground. We can stop pretending that free needles and sandwiches are the full answer. We can choose a city that protects the vulnerable and the innocent at the same time.Sign the petition.

Tell every candidate — including me — that public safety is non-negotiable, and that true compassion includes a path out of the darkness, not just longer nights in it.Welland is worth fighting for.
Our neighbours are worth more than another handout.
And we are still capable of saving what is left — if we act like it.

Restore Safety in Our Public Spaces

We, the undersigned residents and business owners of Welland, call on City Council and Niagara Regional Police to take immediate, decisive action to clear high-harm areas where violence, open drug dealing, and disorder have made our streets, parks, and neighbourhoods unsafe.We specifically request that Council:Direct concentrated enforcement against violence, weapons offences, robbery, and drug dealing in identified hotspots. 
Clear illegal encampments and open drug activity from public property, while offering on-site access to shelter and treatment. 
Maintain regular patrols and enforce existing by-laws so cleared areas stay safe and usable for the public. 
Expand local treatment and temporary housing capacity so people have real alternatives. 
Report monthly public-safety metrics (violent crime, disorder complaints, treatment engagement) so residents can track progress.
