Petition Update 11/8/22: Bank of Books
Thank you for signing the petition to save Bank of Books Ventura.
Clarey and Debby need friends and community to show financial support at this time. They tried to do it on their own, but it has just been too much. They are overwhelmed with the expenses to move so much, the extra staffing, truck rentals, box costs, etc.
We gathered nearly 5,000 signatures hoping it would show the love fir the boos store in the community and that the City Council and the new owners would come up with a plan. That did not happen.
The 325% rent increase was a complete shock to them, so they tried to negotiate a workable solution since the book store was so much a part of Ventura; rooted in 60 years of serving the community and building an Internationally Famous Bookstore to bring world travelers to Ventura Nearly every day.
The loss of Bank of Books to Ventura, an institution of the city and one of only a few world class book stores in in the United States, will deeply impact Ventura. The Rudds have been left with the tremendous expense of packing up the store and moving whatever they could. They could not take all of the books and fixtures, so they started the inventory reduction sale at 60% off and ended up selling off what was left for $1/book. They are taking a big loss to their life's work.
I have opened a GoFundMe account so that they can get immediate support, which is desperately needed. I have worked for Clarey and Debby for 5+ years at Bank of Books and Abednego Book Shoppe. They really need financial help to handle the expenses of moving the store out of Ventura.
The work involved in reorganizing the Bank of Books Santa Paula store to handle all the fixtures being moved there was not planned when they expanded to Santa Paula to better serve us all. Moving a book store is one of the hardest things to accomplish. Boxing everything up, Moving it and putting it all in order is a lot of work.
Please show appreciation for their commitment to all of us and give to the fund so they can survive and continue serving the communities from their other locations:
- Abednego Book Shoppe 2682 E. Main St Ventura (805) 643-9350
- Bank of Books Santa Paula 820 E. Main ST Santa Paula, CA 93060 (805) 420-1050
- Bank of Books On-Line: www.BankofBooks.com
We do not want them to lose those locations because of the damage done to them. We think they are tremendous, please shoe your support. Let's keep them around!
Please give $5, $20, $100 or $1,000 at this time. Now is the time!
