PETITION TO THE UNITED STATES SENATE TO PASS THE SAVE ACT (S. 128)
PETITION TO THE UNITED STATES SENATE TO PASS THE SAVE ACT (S. 128)
The Issue
We, the undersigned American citizens—Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and voters across this nation—call upon the United States Senate to act.
The time for endless political maneuvering has passed.
The American people have spoken.
The voters have spoken.
NOW IT IS TIME FOR THE SENATE TO ACT.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
THE NUMBERS SPEAK FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE
This is not a fringe concern.
This is not a demand that can simply be dismissed as belonging to one political party.
Polling has repeatedly demonstrated overwhelming public support for the fundamental principles of voter identification and citizenship verification:
81%–84%
of Americans favor requiring photo identification at polling places.
75%–83%
support requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote.
Read those numbers again.
81%–84% SUPPORT PHOTO ID.
75%–83% SUPPORT DOCUMENTARY PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP FOR VOTER REGISTRATION.
These are overwhelming majorities.
When approximately eight out of ten Americans support these basic election-integrity principles, the United States Senate cannot simply pretend that the American people have not made their position clear.
WE HAVE SPOKEN.
The Senate's responsibility now is to listen and act.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
SENATORS: YOU WERE ELECTED TO REPRESENT US
We sent you to the United States Senate.
You asked for our votes.
You asked for our confidence.
You asked for our volunteer support.
You asked for our financial contributions.
You promised to represent our states, our communities, our concerns, and our voices.
WE EXPECT YOU TO HONOR THAT PROMISE.
Your seat in the United States Senate does not belong to a political party.
It does not belong to party leadership.
It does not belong to political activists.
It does not belong to ideological organizations.
IT BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE YOU WERE ELECTED TO REPRESENT.
When overwhelming numbers of Americans tell Washington that they support voter identification and citizenship verification, their elected Senators have an obligation to hear them.
REPRESENT US.
HEAR OUR VOICES.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
THE TIME FOR DELAY HAS PASSED
The Senate does not need another political excuse.
The American people do not need another round of Washington finger-pointing.
We do not need another procedural game designed to prevent Senators from being held accountable for their positions.
American families should not be made collateral damage through government shutdowns or shutdown threats while Washington politicians continue fighting among themselves.
ENOUGH.
Enough delays.
Enough excuses.
Enough political games.
The American people deserve action.
The voters deserve accountability.
Every Senator should be prepared to put his or her position before the people.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
OUR SUPPORT MUST BE EARNED
To every United States Senator:
Our votes are not automatically yours.
Our political support is not automatically yours.
Our volunteer hours are not automatically yours.
Our campaign contributions are not automatically yours.
YOU MUST EARN THEM.
We will remember which Senators listened.
We will remember which Senators acted.
And we will remember which Senators ignored the voices of the people who elected them.
When Senators seek our votes in the next election, voters have every right to examine whether those Senators actually represented them when it mattered.
That is representative government.
YOU ASKED US TO SEND YOU TO WASHINGTON.
NOW WE ARE ASKING YOU TO REPRESENT US.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
OUR DEMAND TO THE UNITED STATES SENATE
We therefore call upon the United States Senate to:
STOP THE DELAYS.
STOP THE PROCEDURAL GAMES.
STOP USING GOVERNMENT FUNDING AS POLITICAL LEVERAGE.
PROTECT EVERY ELIGIBLE AMERICAN CITIZEN'S ACCESS TO THE BALLOT.
PROTECT THE INTEGRITY OF FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
REQUIRE MEANINGFUL VERIFICATION OF VOTER ELIGIBILITY CONSISTENT WITH FEDERAL LAW.
PUT EVERY SENATOR'S POSITION ON THE RECORD.
And most importantly:
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
The polling could hardly be clearer:
81%–84% SUPPORT PHOTO ID.
75%–83% SUPPORT DOCUMENTARY PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP FOR VOTER REGISTRATION.
Those numbers represent Americans.
Those Americans are your constituents.
Those constituents are your voters.
HEAR THEM.
REPRESENT THEM.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
We are Republicans.
We are Democrats.
We are Independents.
WE ARE AMERICANS.
We may disagree about presidents.
We may disagree about political parties.
We may disagree about immigration policy, taxes, spending, foreign policy, and countless other issues.
But our elected Senators have one obligation that transcends those disagreements:
REPRESENT THE PEOPLE WHO SENT YOU TO WASHINGTON.
Our votes must be heard.
Our concerns must be acknowledged.
Our Senators must be accountable.
Our elections must retain the confidence of the American people.
And our Senators must remember that political power ultimately belongs not to Washington—
BUT TO WE THE PEOPLE.
The message could not be clearer:
HEAR THE VOTERS.
REPRESENT THE VOTERS.
RESPECT THE VOTERS.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
UNITED STATES SENATE:
HEAR US.
REPRESENT US.
ACT.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
AND REMEMBER WHO SENT YOU THERE.
WE ARE WATCHING.
WE ARE SPEAKING.
WE WILL BE HEARD.
AND WE WILL VOTE.
PASS THE SAVE ACT.
