The Issue

Honourable Members of Parliament,

We urge you to reconsider the government's proposed Online Safety Bill, which may result in weakened end-to-end encryption on messaging services like WhatsApp, iMessage, and Signal due to forced automated content filtering. We entirely disagree with enforced backdoor acces to our messages, photos, files or other media. This poses a risk to our personal information and overall well-being while doing little to combat online illegal activities.

Recognizing the government's concerns about cybercrime, we advocate for alternative solutions that enable effective law enforcement without infringing upon our fundamental rights. As the bill approaches parliamentary review, we ask you to take action to protect our personal data and safety.

End-to-end encryption is vital for securing our communications. Weakening it exposes conversations to cyber threats and data misuse. Additionally, client-side scanning infringes upon our rights and presents further risks.

We believe it is possible to address illegal activities without compromising personal information. We request your advocacy for alternatives that do not jeopardize our well-being. Proceeding with the current proposal risks service providers limiting or discontinuing UK operations.

As the Online Safety Bill returns to parliament this summer, we implore you to defend our rights by maintaining strong encryption on messaging services. Please support our cause by rejecting this plan.
