Petition to Support Eedris Abdulkareem: Holding Nigerian Leaders Accountable
The Issue
To: The Nigerian Government
We, the undersigned, express our solidarity with Eedris Abdulkareem, a renowned Nigerian musician, in his call for accountability and justice. His latest song, “Emi Lokan,” sheds light on critical issues affecting ordinary Nigerians and challenges the actions of prominent figures in the country.
Background:
“Emi Lokan” translates to “It is my turn.” In this powerful song, Eedris Abdulkareem highlights the stark contrast between the lavish spending of political leaders and the dire economic conditions faced by everyday citizens.
He criticises: Pastor Adeboye: For perceived silence on current issues compared to his vocal stance during the Jonathan administration.
President Tinubu: Questioning his role in bringing Buhari to power.
Ex-President Buhari: Holding him accountable for exacerbating the country’s problems.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan: Challenging the practice of blaming past administrations.
Emefiele: Accountability for controversial financial decisions, including the printing of 23 trillion naira1.
Our Demands:
Transparency: We demand transparency in government spending. Funds allocated for renovations, allowances, and maintenance should benefit all Nigerians, not just the elite.
Spiritual Leadership: We call on spiritual leaders, including Pastor Adeboye, to actively address national challenges and mobilize protests against policies that harm citizens.
End Blame Games: Successive regimes must stop blaming past administrations and focus on solutions.
Shared Hardship: Government officials should share in the economic difficulties faced by ordinary Nigerians.
