Dear West Deane Residents,
We wanted to share an update on the TTC’s proposed reroute of the East Mall 111 bus. While the project has been paused, it is important to understand that this pause is temporary. Continued community involvement is essential to ensure a safe, transparent, and permanent resolution.
Where Things Stand:
Councillor Stephen Holyday is actively working with both Transportation Services and the TTC to explore safe and viable alternatives for the East Mall routing.
Councillor Holyday and numerous residents have formally requested that the TTC remove the tree protection fencing installed in preparation for the reroute. This would be a clear sign of their commitment to the pause. To date, the TTC has not responded.
We’ve asked the TTC to begin meaningful community engagement in September, involving Senior TTC and City officials, to allow local schools to participate. No confirmation has been received.
Despite requests, residents continue to report TTC buses driving through the neighbourhood. We’ve requested that bus training be conducted elsewhere, as these test runs confuse residents and contradict the Council’s direction to pause the reroute. The TTC has not committed to stopping them.
How You Can Help Now:
Submit an official TTC complaint to ensure your concerns are on record: A large volume of complaints will demonstrate widespread opposition when the TTC Board considers this matter. They need to hear from us.
Your continued support is critical. The pause happened because of your efforts—thank you. However, we must maintain the momentum. Please continue to spread the word, especially to neighbours south of Sedgebrook and east to Rathburn, who may not yet be aware.
Together, we can ensure our community is protected and our children stay safe.
