Petition to Stop the Arrest, Imprisonment, and Execution of Medical Professionals in Iran
To:
The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
World Health Organization (WHO)
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and all international medical associations
Statement of Concern
We, the undersigned, urgently call for an immediate end to the arrest, imprisonment, harassment, torture, and execution of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other medical professionals in Iran.
Medical professionals have a moral, ethical, and legal duty to treat the injured and save lives—regardless of a patient’s political beliefs, ethnicity, religion, or social status. Punishing healthcare workers for fulfilling this duty is a grave violation of human rights, medical ethics, and international law.
Reports indicate that Iranian doctors, nurses, and medical staff have been:
Arrested for treating injured protesters
Interrogated, threatened, or imprisoned for refusing to cooperate with security forces
Charged with vague or politically motivated crimes
At risk of torture, unfair trials, or execution
These actions violate:
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
The Geneva Conventions
The World Medical Association’s Declaration of Geneva
Our Demands
We urgently demand that the Iranian authorities:
Immediately release all detained doctors, nurses, and medical professionals imprisoned for providing medical care or expressing professional ethics.
Halt all arrests, prosecutions, and threats against healthcare workers.
End the use of the death penalty against medical professionals and all detainees.
Guarantee the safety and independence of healthcare workers, allowing them to perform their duties without fear.
Allow independent international monitoring of detention facilities and trials involving medical staff.
Why This Matters
When doctors and nurses are punished for saving lives, no one is safe. Criminalizing medical care is a crime against humanity and undermines the foundations of healthcare, ethics, and human dignity.
Silence enables injustice. The international community must act now.
Call to Action
We urge governments, international organizations, medical associations, and human rights bodies worldwide to:
Publicly condemn these violations
Apply diplomatic and legal pressure
Hold Iranian authorities accountable
Protect those who protect life.
Signed,
Concerned citizens, healthcare workers, and human rights advocates worldwide
