State Rep. Pat Curry announced he will no longer pursue House Bill 4938, which aimed to abolish the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). Curry explained on Facebook that he filed the bill as a strategy to prompt TPWD to engage in dialogue about proposed regulations affecting the deer breeding industry. After what he described as productive conversations with TPWD, he decided not to move the bill forward. Curry raised concerns that the regulations, aimed at controlling Chronic Wasting Disease, could infringe on private property and small business rights. While clarifying he is not a deer breeder himself, Curry emphasized his role as a rancher and business owner advocating for constituents and an industry contributing over $9 billion to Texas’ economy.
