West Lafayette Mayor Erin Easter continues to stand with PRF and SK hynix in support of the proposed heavy industrial development near our neighborhoods. She attended Friday’s public outreach session and encouraged residents to “keep an open mind” and continue asking questions, describing the information as “highly technical.” (Dave Bangert: SK hynix, PRF accused of ‘broken trust’ on $3.87B plans, as they vow to do more to win over neighbors). But this raises a serious contradiction. When community scientists and engineers shared their informed concerns at the APC public hearing backed by peer-reviewed research and professional experiences, they were dismissed as spreading misinformation. Now we are being told to trust a brief corporate presentation that allowed limited time for community questions and ended with glowing praise from people who may financially benefit from the project.

Among the most pressing unanswered questions:
Will PFAS be used in this facility?

At the APC hearing, PRF representatives stated that PFAS would not be used.
Now SK hynix has said no PFAS will be created.
But neither statement answers what residents are actually asking:
Will PFAS be used in the advanced packaging (or heterogeneous integration) process? The most recent white papers still state the necessity of PFAS in chip “packaging process”.

PFAS are not just any chemicals.
They’re known as forever chemicals: toxic, persistent, and nearly impossible to remove once they contaminate water or air. Communities exposed to PFAS have experienced serious health impacts, and cleanups can take decades.

So when a company carefully avoids saying they will “use” PFAS, but also claims they won’t “create” them, it’s fair to ask:
Is this just PR spin, or are they avoiding the real risk?

Residents need transparency and clear answers, especially about chemicals that could affect our health for generations.

Let’s not be reassured by talking points.
Let’s demand facts, before the vote, before construction, before it’s too late.
No heavy industry near homes.
No forever chemicals near our water.
No decisions without answers.
