PETITION TO REVERT OUR CAP AND GOWN TO BLACK

PETITION TO REVERT OUR CAP AND GOWN TO BLACK
The Issue
As a student of UCR, it feels personal to me when I see our cap and gown in colors that deviate from the traditional black. The black cap and gown is a universal symbol of higher education, recognized and respected across the globe. It has its roots in the 12th and 13th centuries when universities started forming. The significance of the black academic dress holds a special place in history, representing the serious, proud nature of academic achievements.
Statistic shows that more than 85% of universities around the world adorn the black cap and gown during graduations. This tradition not only honors the academic world's historical roots, but also fosters a sense of unity and equality - reminding us that we are part of a global academic community.
We appeal to our university's administration to consider our call for tradition and unity. Let us honor the time-honored tradition of the academic world and stand proudly with our peers across the globe. It is not just about a color, but the symbol and respect that the color black brings to our academic journey.
We, respectfully, ask the university to revert the current cap and gown color back to black. Sign this petition and show your support for reinstating tradition.
