PETITION TO REMOVE TUTOR REQUIREMENTS AND RESTORE FREEDOMS
PETITION TO REMOVE TUTOR REQUIREMENTS AND RESTORE FREEDOMS
The Issue
Classical Conversations (CC) is renowned for fostering a strong homeschooling community and curriculum. However, many parents believe there is a need to restore freedom to best serve the children’s individual learning needs.
We call on CC leadership to revise current policies in a way that truly champions the freedoms they proclaim to value. A homeschool program should not only offer flexibility within its curriculum, but also allow Directors the discretion to choose tutors they believe are best fit for their communities. A one-size-fits-all perspective does not serve the diverse educational needs of every CC family, nor does it align with God’s character or His word.
CC’s stated mission is "To Know God and Make Him Known.” These recent enrollment requirements appear to conflict with this mission by suggesting that a parent who prayerfully follows the Lord’s guidance may no longer serve as a tutor if they choose a different educational path for one of their children.
These policies remove a Director’s ability to discern what is best for families and instead communicates that corporate leadership does not fully support parents and Directors. As Godly parents, we understand our children's unique learning styles and should be encouraged to make educational decisions without shame or fear of consequence.
CC self proclaims to be "leaders in home-centered education." With these recent tutor and curriculum mandates, CC is transforming into a one day a week private school model. The essence of Christian homeschooling is flexibility and responsiveness to the Lord's leading. Leigh Bortin has expressed this vision clearly over the years. Recently, on the "The Shawn Ryan Show" she stated:
“I don’t own this company or run this company in a normal sense. The Holy Spirit is our guide, and it’s the Lord’s business.”
CC may be a business, but these recent changes stand in contrast to this vision. If the Holy Spirit is your guide, Directors should be trusted to prayerfully discern what is best for classrooms, parents, families, and communities. We urge CC Leadership to acknowledge the importance of allowing parents to follow the Lord's leading and refrain from penalizing families and communities for such decisions.
These new policies have already had an immediate and tangible negative impact on families and CC communities.
By signing this petition, you are respectfully asking the leaders of CC, including CEO, Robert Bortins, to bring back the freedom they once championed and remove policies requiring tutors to enroll all of their eligible children in CC.
