Petition to Relocate Saturday Showers

The Issue

The Saturday showers have resulted in an uncomfortable and unsafe environment for residents in our neighborhood, making it more challenging to maintain the community bond and has tarnished customer experiences for businesses in the area that took years to build.

Personally living next door to these showers for 6 years, we have experienced the following of ultimate disrespect beyond trespassing:

  1. Loud disturbances of megaphones, fights, and music (and not good music, by the way, "trap" music)
  2. People urinating and defecating on our front porch, yard, and garage areas
  3. Used syringes thrown in our backyard putting our pets at risk
  4. A man laying in our front yard with a half full bottle of SKYY vodka being belligerent
  5. Dirty underwear, used sex toys, and drug paraphernalia in our trash can
  6. Trash in our yard (not carried by the wind)
  7. A man trying to come through our bathroom window
  8. No solution after repeated requests to have security from Assistance Center of Collin County, Streetside Showers, and Plano Neighborhood Services

Homelessness is a significant issue in our nation, with over 500,000 people going homeless on a single night in the United States (according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Annual Homeless Assessment Report - AHAR). While it is essential that society does not turn a blind eye to this crisis, it is equally important that a balance is maintained in the neighborhoods where hardworking individuals make their living and residents that would like to have peace in their home.

It is not about pushing the problem somewhere else, but finding a sensible solution that is respectful to all parties involved. Therefore, we are advocating for a safe and humane relocation of the homeless showers to a location where homeless individuals can receive the care they need, without negatively impacting existing community dynamics.

We now urge the local council to act responsibly. Recognize the impact on residents, local businesses, and our community. I am submitting this petition on the recommendation of a Plano police officer due to the fact they get calls every week and as we all know they have better things to do in our community.

Join our cause. Protect our residents and local businesses, nurture community bonds, and show empathy for the homeless by signing this petition.
