Petition to release this elephant into fenced forest area to enjoy chain-less living
The Issue
The total value of vehicle and house property damaged by the elephant named Olarikkara Kalidasan was estimated to Rs.50 Lakhs. The Kongad police station house officer had estimated this loss. The elephant had damaged 27 vehicles (photograph of vehicle damaged is enclosed here with ) and several houses during the six hour period of misbehavior during Pulappetta Cherunalussery bhagavathy temple festival on 25th februvary. This elephant was one of the 19 elephants paraded at that unauthorized elephant parade. This elephant was a trouble maker even when it was first kept by the Thirumanthamkunnu bhagavathy temple at Angadipuram near Peruthalmanna. The Thirumanthamkunnu bhagavathy temple authorities auctioned it for Rs.1 Laksh during 2007 to Olarikkara bhagavathy temple in Thrissur Dis. Thirumanthamkunnu bhagavathy temple auctioned it after knowing that this elephant was a trouble maker. Before it was donated to Thirumanthamkunnu bhagavathy temple it was kept by a circus company. This elephant aged 28th had killed 5 people in past. Now this elephant in Musth was paraded at Chinakkathur pooram, Vayilyamkunnu pooram and Cherunalussery on consecutive days. This elephant was starved without providing any food or water. Now this elephant was transferred to thrissur after inflicting wounds all over its body by a group of mahouts as per the instructions of its custodian. Now rhe elephant’s body is full of wounds due to torture and its life is in danger. The forest authorities of Palakkad districted failed to arrest the owner of the elephant and the festival organizers. The forest authorities of Palakkad districted failed to record the misbehavior in the elephant data book. All these dereliction of duty by forest authorities helped the custodian and mahouts to flee from the place of festival and to inflict wounds all over the body of the elephant. Now the elephant is kept inside a hideout area and the elephant is battling for life. I expect that your authoritative office will issue strict orded to your subordinate officers to arrest all the persons who were party to type of torture of elephants and to save the life of the elephant as early as possible.
