Petition to Reject the report of the ‘Taskforce against Antisemitism’ at universities
The Issue
WE, EREV RAV, CALL EVERYONE TO JOIN US IN REJECTING THE REPORT OF THE NEW TASKFORCE AT DUTCH UNIVERSITIES BECAUSE:
1. It is another attempt to censor and repress critique of a genocidal state by falsely conflating antizionism with antisemitism.
2. It is antisemitic, as it assumes that Jews and Jewish identities are monolithic, only represented by one, supremacist ideology: Zionism.
3. It ignores the voices of Jewish students who form part of and feel safe in the Palestinian rights movement, including many of our members. Its descriptions of pro-Palestine actions, events, and activists as threatening are antithetical to our experiences at universities across the Netherlands.
4. It fails to consider the comfort and rights of Palestinian students and staff advocating against the genocide of their people.
WE DEMAND:
- The problematic and biased report (produced by mostly CIDI lobbyists) is rejected by universities and society at large.
- That a new grassroots coalition against racism and discrimination be formed at universities in the NL, with diverse members. All forms of discrimination and racism, such as anti-Muslim hatred and transphobia, must be included.
- That the new coalition addresses the real anti-Jewish hatred by fascists, neonazis, the far right, and populists. In the past few years, fascist and far-right student associations have proliferated at universities, as has anti-Muslim hatred. Administrations have ignored these trends, distracted by their misguided attempts to censor solidarity for Palestine under the guise of ‘protecting Jews’.
- That Dutch universities offer a public apology to their staff and students for the harassment, discrimination and violence they have suffered in the past years as they organise against genocide.
We stand against the criminalisation and suppression of our solidarity movements. As Jews in the Netherlands, we never thought we would fear a 'Taskforce Against Antisemitism'. We reach out to you all in broader society to help fight the censorship, harassment and violence against our solidarity movements.
