Petition to Reconsider Revised Senior Thesis Requirements for Students In NPS

The Issue

We, the undersigned students, respectfully request that the administration reconsider the recent changes made to the senior thesis requirement. The revised expectations were introduced late in the academic year, after many seniors had already made substantial progress on their original thesis projects. As a result, a significant amount of completed work has been rendered unusable, requiring students to restart with a new assignment that includes an 8-minute argumentative presentation on a topic that has not yet been clearly defined or disclosed. This abrupt shift places an undue academic burden on seniors. Students are already managing rigorous coursework, college applications, and external exam preparation. The addition of a newly structured, high-stakes requirement at this stage in the year creates unnecessary stress and limits students’ ability to perform to the best of their abilities across all commitments. We respectfully ask the administration to either remove the senior thesis requirement for this year or provide a more manageable and meaningful alternative project that allows students to demonstrate their learning without the undue stress caused by these late changes.
