Petition to protect and preserve the Qualicum Beach Airport!
The Issue
To the Mayor and Council of the Town of Qualicum Beach,
We, the undersigned residents, taxpayers, business owners, visitors, and supporters of Qualicum Beach, respectfully call upon the Town of Qualicum Beach to protect, preserve, and invest in the Qualicum Beach Airport as a vital community asset.
The Qualicum Beach Airport is far more than a runway. It serves as an important piece of infrastructure that benefits our entire community. The airport supports local businesses, tourism, emergency services, pilot training, and recreational aviation. It contributes to our local economy, attracts visitors, and helps connect our region to the rest of Vancouver Island and beyond.
In times of emergency, airports provide critical access for medical transport, search and rescue operations, wildfire response, and disaster relief. Maintaining a functional airport is an investment in community resilience and public safety.
The airport also represents an irreplaceable public asset. Once aviation infrastructure is lost, it is rarely recovered. Future generations deserve the opportunity to benefit from the economic, educational, recreational, and emergency-response advantages that this facility provides.
While concerns regarding airport operations should be heard and addressed respectfully, decisions affecting a community asset of this importance must consider the interests of the entire community, not just a small number of voices. The airport has served Qualicum Beach for decades and continues to provide value to thousands of residents and visitors.
We urge the Town of Qualicum Beach to:
1. Commit to preserving the Qualicum Beach Airport for future generations.
2. Recognize the airport as essential community infrastructure.
3. Support continued investment in airport maintenance and improvement.
4. Ensure that future decisions regarding the airport reflect the broad public interest and long-term needs of the community.
5. Promote responsible coexistence between airport operations and surrounding neighbourhoods.
The Qualicum Beach Airport is a community asset worth protecting. We ask Council to stand behind this important resource and ensure its continued operation and success.
