The Issue

The Issue for Addison Citizens

The Airport Master Plan is our agreed consent for the future.  This is a crucial time to share your voice as the direction is changing without it. Please take a minute to share your signature to protect Addison's quality of life.  We like living next to an airport—not in one.

Do you want…
•    A bigger airport with larger planes?
•    More air traffic and more noise?
•    Do you want to give the FAA control without their agreement to dedicated flight paths?

What we’re asking:
✅ No expansion designed to encourage larger aircraft with daily operations
✅ Require mandatory aircraft routing from the FAA for the safety of our neighborhoods
✅ Complete the Council requested 2020 noise study - computer models aren't enough
✅ Independent air quality and health review
✅ Permanent noise & air monitoring
✅ Public approval before future FAA commitments are made

Please review the current draft:

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of the Town of Addison, support Addison Airport and recognize its importance to our community and local economy.
However, the proposed Airport Master Plan represents a significant change in the airport’s future. The plan projects approximately 50% more aircraft operations, 38% more aircraft noise, and runway improvements that would accommodate larger aircraft and increase activity near our neighborhoods—particularly Addison Circle, Addison East, and North Addison, though all neighboring communities are to be considered.
These changes could affect our quality of life for decades through increased noise, air pollution, and future FAA commitments made on behalf of our community.

We believe Addison can have both a successful airport and thriving neighborhoods. Before this Master Plan moves forward, we ask our Town leaders and airport officials to commit to the following items to ensure quality of life considerations for our residents, businesses, and visitors
We respectfully ask that the Town:
1) Preserve Addison Airport as a general aviation airport rather than one that can support substantially larger aircraft.
2) Mandatory FAA aircraft routing that considers noise sensitivity as well as the health and safety of residential areas
3) Complete the independent noise study promised in 2020 before approving the master plan. Updated computer noise contour models are not real-world noise measurements.
4) Conduct an independent air quality assessment (including ultrafine particle monitoring) and public health impact assessment (HIA) to represent the consideration of all six areas of Addison.
5) Install permanent noise and air-quality monitoring with open public reporting.
6) Require public hearings and full disclosure before accepting future FAA grants that would commit Addison to decades of obligation.
7) Creation a permanent citizen advisory committee to ensure residents will have an ongoing voice in future airport decisions.

We are demanding responsible planning, transparency, and accountability before decisions are made that will affect our homes, businesses, and our community for generations.

While the airport contributes to our local economy, it contributes less than $2 million annually in local tax revenue because it operates as its own taxing entity. This tax contribution should not outweigh the health, environmental, and quality-of-life impacts that thousands of Addison residents and businesses would experience under the proposed expansion.

Residents deserve a Master Plan that represents the balance of economic development with the responsible stewardship of our quality of life and how it will affect our neighboring communities.
