One of the issues raised at the meeting was implementing some short term solutions regarding safety which would include the City taking steps to improve lighting to deter encounters from taking place in and around our community (streets and alleyways), as well as to improve the cleanliness (garbage removal, cutting of grass and shrubs, etc) so as to remove the dangerous garbage left by the trade including condoms, needles, etc. This is a small step in the bigger picture but it is one the city is willing to act on immediately. Other larger steps are still being discussed. These areas would include places where there is poor lighting (which is a magnet for tricks or other crime to take place), where there is dangerous garbage present (condoms, needles, etc) and where there is unkept grass, shrubs, etc Once these areas have been identified, the second step is to then provide this information to the City so as to direct the engineering and sanitation departments to commence work. We are kindly asking that you email dickenscommunitywatch@hotmail.com with information on specific areas that need to be attended to which I will then include in a map to be provided to the City. As many details as possible will be helpful (cross streets, addresses, etc). As we would would like the City to start working on this right away, I kindly ask that you please provide me with this information at your earliest opportunity and, if possible, by the end of the week.
