Since the launch of this petition, public scrutiny of the Special Sustainability Zone (SSZ) framework and the proposed Destiny Project has intensified.
Negotiations between the Nevis Island Administration and the developers are reportedly at an advanced stage. However, no final development agreement has been signed, and no formal SSZ declaration has yet been made.
Importantly, the Federal Government has established a committee to review the SSZ Act, acknowledging public concerns about transparency, constitutional safeguards, and the scope of authority under Section 3. Discussions about potential amendments are underway, though no formal legislative changes have yet been passed.
Despite assurances that Parliament will review any final agreement, key documents — including environmental assessments, land boundaries, governance arrangements, and fiscal terms — have not been publicly released.
With over 602 citizens now supporting this petition, the call remains clear:
Full transparency before any binding commitments
Strengthened safeguards within the SSZ framework
Meaningful public engagement before declaration
This is a critical moment. Decisions taken now will shape governance, sovereignty, and development policy for generations.
We continue to press for accountability, clarity, and responsible national development.
