The Issue

Bryan Brooks ties to the Proud Boys directly endanger my safety as a student.  Bryan Brooks ties to the Proud Boys directly endanger the safety of all NSHE-system students.  They pose direct harm and danger to the safety of future students of all NSHE universities and colleges. Regent Brooks is alleged to have threatened former NSHE Chancellor Melody Rose while carrying a gun on NSHE property in the past.  Regent Brooks has been visibly irate at multiple NSHE Board meetings in the past.  Regent Brooks general demeanor by itself would be grounds to call into question for his fitness to serve on the Board of Regents.

Byron Brooks is unfit to continue in his elected position as a member of the Nevada System of Higher Education's Board of Regents. If Byron Brooks is allowed to remain in his position as Regent, he will assume the control of title/position as Chair beginning in January 2023. He will have power and personal direction in that position over the direction and decisions of system legal counsel and by extension, system law enforcement. He should not be permitted to wield this power as a known, public member of a hate group which promulgates Antisemitism and promotes political violence within the United States.

Immediate action is required and necessary. Several alarming developments regarding the Nevada System of Higher Education, under its currents operation by the Board of Regents, were reported upon by elected representatives at last week's Board of Regents open public meetings in Las Vegas.  Immediate action must be taken before Byron Brooks is allowed to assume control of the responsibilities of the position of Chair of the Board.  Through December while Cathy McAdoo continues to hold the position and title of Chair, there remains time to take appropriate action. The other Board of Regents members can call for an emergency meeting of the Board of Regents, for the purpose of having a roll call vote of no confidence in Byron Brooks' ability to continue in his position as Regent, effectively removing him from the Board of Regents.

Outgoing Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and incoming Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo should issue immediate public call through their offices for the immediate resignation/removal of Proud Boy Byron Brooks from NSHE's Board of Regents.
