Petition to Make the GST Process Faceless and Prevent Arbitrary Rejection of Application

The Issue

To,
The Hon’ble Minister of Finance,
Government of India

Subject: Demand for a Faceless GST Process to Stop Arbitrary Rejections and Corruption

Who is Impacted?
Small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs across India are facing unnecessary roadblocks in the GST application process. Many GST applications are rejected for trivial or unjustified reasons, compelling applicants to visit GST officers in person, where they are often pressured to pay bribes to get their applications approved. A simple google search will prove this is true. This has crushed the dreams of countless individuals who aim to start small businesses and contribute to the economy.

What is at Stake?
According to a recent RTI, only 52% of GST applications are approved, leaving 48% of applicants rejected without clear reasons. This statistic reflects not just a procedural failure but a shattered hope for thousands of entrepreneurs. When GST applications are rejected arbitrarily, honest taxpayers are discouraged, small businesses are unable to start operations, and India's vision of "Ease of Doing Business" is undermined.
By adopting a faceless and automatic GST process, akin to the successful faceless income tax system, the government can eliminate corruption, ensure fairness, and enable more businesses to thrive without fear of harassment.

Why is Now the Time to Act?
The current system not only perpetuates corruption, but also obstructs economic growth. At a time when small businesses are the backbone of India’s economy, enabling their success is critical. With technology already in place, implementing a faceless GST process is a timely and necessary reform. By acting now, the government can rebuild trust in the system, empower entrepreneurs, and create a transparent business environment.

We Urge You To:

Implement a faceless and automated GST application process, eliminating human discretion and corruption.
Establish strict and transparent criteria for application approvals to ensure fairness.
Conduct a review of previously rejected applications and provide an avenue for reconsideration.
India’s entrepreneurs and small business owners are counting on the government to address this issue urgently. Let us work together to create a GST system that is transparent, efficient, and corruption-free, supporting the dreams and ambitions of every taxpayer.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Honest Taxpayers
