Reinstate Weekly Residential Recycling Collection

To the Mayor, Councillors and CEO of Kiama Municipal Council,

We, the undersigned residents and ratepayers of the Kiama Local Government Area, call on Kiama Municipal Council to reverse its decision to reduce the yellow-lid recycling collection from a weekly to a fortnightly service, and to restore weekly recycling collection for all households.

Why we are asking for this

●      Since the change took effect on 6 July 2026, many households have found a single yellow bin insufficient to hold two weeks of recycling, leading to overflow, contamination and rubbish blowing into streets and public spaces.

●      Fortnightly collection places a disproportionate burden on larger families, share houses, and properties with limited bin storage space.

●      Reduced recycling frequency risks discouraging good recycling habits and undermines the community's strong commitment to sustainability.

●      Ratepayers deserve a service level that reflects the needs of our community, not just administrative cost savings.

We respectfully request that Council place this matter on the agenda of an upcoming Ordinary Meeting and resolve to restore weekly residential recycling collection as soon as practicable.
