883 SEA MEMBERS ARE DEMANDING A RECALL VOTE. IDOWU, STEP DOWN.

STEP DOWN, IBIJOKE IDOWU.

Yesterday’s Seattle Times coverage makes one thing painfully clear:  SEA needs credible leadership at a moment when educators are being asked to consider one of the most consequential collective actions available to a union.

Instead, our president is fighting a recall while facing continuing fallout from substantiated SPS investigative findings concerning her abuse of children. 

And now there is another question SEA members deserve answered:

Who is paying KD Hall Communications?

The statement attributed to Idowu in The Seattle Times was provided through KD Hall, whose firm publicly describes its work as strategic communications and crisis management for high-profile leaders and organizations navigating reputation-threatening crises.

If SEA is paying any portion of those expenses with member dues, members deserve to know. Are we paying to spin Idowu's dumpster fire?

If Idowu is paying privately, say so.

This should not require speculation. Disclose it.

SEA members pay dues to build collective power—not to wonder whether our money is being spent rehabilitating the reputation of an officer who is simultaneously fighting a member-driven recall.

Meanwhile, this is what I told The Seattle Times:

“Whereas a good case can be made that SEA should seriously consider a strike if SPS stonewalls us on pay and work hours, from the standpoint of union leadership, SEA needs to have its best public face for such a collective effort. Naturally, those of us collecting signatures for the recall believe that cannot happen with the current president of the union.”
Exactly.

This recall is not anti-union. It is demanding that our union leadership be worthy of the educators and students we represent.

At a moment when SEA needs public trust, credibility, discipline, and moral authority, we should not be spending our energy defending the indefensible or managing one officer’s reputational crisis.

We need leadership with integrity, judgment, accountability, and promise.

Ibijoke Idowu is not that leadership.

Stop dragging SEA through this crisis.
Stop forcing members to carry the consequences.
Answer the financial questions.
Respect the recall process.
STEP DOWN.

The recall is real. The membership deserves its vote.
