Petition to Improve Traffic Safety on Curie Drive

To the City of San Jose:

We, the undersigned residents, property owners, parents, and community members, respectfully request that the City evaluate and implement traffic-calming measures on Curie Drive to improve safety for all road users.

Curie Drive serves as a residential neighborhood street used daily by families, children, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. Residents have observed ongoing concerns including excessive speeding, skipping stop signs, aggressive driving behavior, unsafe passing maneuvers, and other conditions that increase the risk of serious collisions.

These safety concerns affect the quality of life of neighborhood residents and create hazards for those walking, biking, accessing schools, visiting parks, and traveling within the community.

We love our neighborhood, and want to make sure it’s a safe place our community is able to enjoy to its fullest. 

We respectfully request that the City conduct a traffic and safety evaluation of Curie Drive and consider appropriate measures to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety.  We suggest following the improvements made on Choctaw Drive where the safety and quality of life has been greatly improved thanks to increased traffic calming measures. 

Such measures may include, but are not limited to:

• Speed humps or other traffic-calming devices
• Additional stop controls where warranted
• Enhanced traffic enforcement
• Improved signage and pavement markings
• Other engineering improvements recommended by City staff

Our goal is to make Curie Drive safer for residents and visitors while maintaining reasonable access for all road users.
