Petition to Honor Estella Wheeler by Naming a Garden
The Issue
Dear City Council,
On behalf of Africentric School, we, the community, students, staff, and parents are writing to you with a heartfelt request. We wish to honor the legacy of Estella Wheeler by naming a nearby garden after her.
Ms. Wheeler, who was taken from us far too soon on March 6, 2024. This was a devastating loss for all who knew her because she was a passionate educator and leader who devoted her life to the betterment of our community. Wheeler worked at our school for seven years and was particularly passionate about civics. Her efforts led to the establishment of the school's student council, which proved highly effective in ensuring that every student had a voice and used it to effect change. She dedicated her time, and efforts to improve the school and community and will never be forgotten. Those who had the honor of knowing her will tell you how much they benefited from her advocacy and dedication to providing quality education and fostering a nurturing environment for all.
Moreover, we are reaching out to you in hopes that the council will allow for the naming of a garden in Estella Wheeler's honor. Wheeler had a deep love for gardening and plants. Every morning, she dedicated time to ensuring her plants were watered and cared for with utmost attention. This passion brought her immense joy and satisfaction. Her classroom was always adorned with plants in every corner, as she treated gardening as both a hobby and a passion, bringing her comfort and peace of mind. Plants were a gift that provided her with serenity. As such a garden in her honor would offer solace and unity during to the community during these challenging times.
We understand that decisions of this nature require thoughtful consideration and community input. Therefore, we respectfully request your assistance in facilitating the process of naming a garden. Our school would be grateful if Mr. Pasternak and the council would agree to honor our request.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Best regards,
Africentric Staff & Community
