Subject: Petition to Halt the Preliminary and Final Site Plan for "The Woods at Hamburg"

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Hamburg, Hardyston, and surrounding areas, hereby express our profound concern and vehement opposition to the Preliminary and Final Site Plan for "The Woods at Hamburg," proposed for development at Block 36, Lot 2 in the Borough of Hamburg and Block 14, Lot 21.02 in the Town of Hardyston, along New Jersey State Highway Route 23, Sussex County, New Jersey. This project entails the construction in Hamburg of a 4-building complex with garages, comprising 40 two-bedroom apartments, along with a storm water basin in Hardyston, and its potential consequences have deeply alarmed our community.

Our concerns and objections regarding this project are as follows:

Property Values: The magnitude of this proposed development, covering many acres, threatens to significantly decrease property values in the vicinity, thus endangering the financial well-being of numerous residents.

Flooding Risk: The introduction of a wastewater basin heightens the risk of flooding in our area, which poses a significant threat to the safety and security of our residents, due to inadequate maintenance or during adverse weather conditions causing contamination in the surrounding areas.

Wildlife Disturbance: The construction of "The Woods at Hamburg" will disturb and displace our local wildlife, thereby disrupting the delicate ecological balance of our region and jeopardizing its biodiversity.

Mosquito Breeding: Stagnant water in stormwater basins can promote mosquito breeding, creating a public health concern and the need for mosquito control measures.

Aesthetic, View, Odor, Privacy Impact: The sprawling development threatens to obliterate the natural aesthetics, scenic views, and the privacy that we currently enjoy, fundamentally altering the character of our community. The wastewater basin can emit unpleasant odors due to decomposition of organic matter and will be a nuisance to nearby residents and businesses affecting the overall aesthetics of the area.

Traffic Congestion: The proposed complex will exacerbate the already overburdened traffic situation in our area, leading to increased inconvenience and potential safety hazards for residents.

Quarry Blasting: Removal of trees as part of this project will no longer serve as a buffer for quarry blasting, increasing the risk of damage to our properties due to the unimpeded transmission of vibrations.  The blasting can case the stormwater basin to  suffer structural damage such as cracks and leaks.  The continuous vibrations from quarry blasting can lead to the settling or shifting of the basin's foundations. This can disrupt the proper functioning of the basin and affect its structural stability.

Public Safety: The potential increase in traffic and flooding risks puts public safety in jeopardy, further heightening our concerns.

Given the gravity of these concerns, we urgently request that you halt the Preliminary and Final Site Plan for "The Woods at Hamburg." We implore you to consider the long-term well-being of the community, its residents, and the environment when making decisions regarding land use and development in our area and ask that you take action to preserve its character and protect the environment.

We appreciate your prompt attention to this critical matter.
