The Issue

Tell the Town of Oyster Bay: Pause This Project Until a Full Review Is Completed
We, the undersigned, urge the Town of Oyster Bay to immediately pause all approvals, permits, and progress on the proposed Jericho Plaza hotel project until a full, updated, independent review is completed.

Why This Project Should Be Halted

  1. Taxpayers should not subsidize private risk.
If the project cannot survive without public assistance, residents should not be forced to carry the burden.
  2. The tax benefit is minimal.
The claimed revenue sounds large over decades, but it represents only a tiny impact on Town finances and does little for the community most affected.
  3. The site already shows weak demand.
Jericho Plaza has major unused parking and office space. A hotel will not fix a struggling office complex.
  4. There are already many hotels nearby.
The area already has several hotels serving the same market. New hotel demand has not been clearly proven.
  5. Traffic and quality-of-life impacts are being understated.
A hotel and event venue will bring more cars, congestion, noise, and disruption. Updated traffic studies are needed.
  6. The surrounding office complex is in foreclosure.
This financial distress should trigger a full reassessment before the Town allows the project to continue.
  7. There is a risk of future conversion.
If the hotel fails, residents could later face pressure to convert it into housing or another use not originally approved.
  8. The Town could face legal and financial risk.
Moving forward despite changed conditions, outdated studies, and community concerns creates unnecessary exposure.

What We Are Asking For
We call on the Town of Oyster Bay to:

  1. Pause the project immediately
  2. Require a new independent traffic study
  3. Require a new hotel demand study
  4. Update the fiscal impact analysis
  5. Disclose the relationship between the hotel and the distressed office campus
  6. Prohibit any future conversion without a full new public approval process
  7. End tax benefits if the project changes use
  8. This Is About Responsible Governance
  9. This is not about opposing development. It is about protecting residents from a project with
  10. questionable demand, minimal public benefit, taxpayer subsidy risk, traffic concerns, and permanent community impact.

Please sign this petition and urge the Town of Oyster Bay to halt the Jericho Plaza hotel project until a full public review is completed.
