Dear Supporter,
There is something I need to share with you that goes beyond the environmental concerns at the heart of this campaign.
It has been widely reported that Yntegra’s London-based lawyers, Schillings, sent legal letters to me and four other members of the Save Exuma Alliance, demanding apologies and calling on recipients to limit what they say publicly about the proposed Rosewood Exuma project on Sampson Cay. Letters were also sent to media outlets and other Bahamians who have spoken out on social media.
Let me be direct: this is an attempt to silence people who are raising legitimate concerns about the future of Exuma.
People in small communities are often already hesitant to speak out about controversial matters. Many prefer to keep to themselves rather than become involved in public disputes or debates. Tactics like this are designed to deepen that silence and that should alarm every Bahamian who believes in the right to ask questions, speak freely, and hold powerful developers accountable when projects threaten the natural environment and risk disrupting the quiet way of life that has long defined these idyllic cays.
The Save Exuma Alliance has been clear: you cannot have a genuine public consultation process when a developer’s lawyers are warning people what they can and cannot say. These are issues of genuine public concern, and no one should face legal threats for voicing them.
We will not be intimidated into silence, and I hope you won’t be either. If anything, this makes it more important than ever that as many voices as possible are part of this conversation.
Please share this petition with anyone who believes that Bahamians have the right to speak freely about what happens to their environment and their islands.
Thank you for standing firm.
