Petition to give the land of the old highschool back to the children- skate park!
The Issue
In Woodsfield, our children face an overwhelming shortage of safe and accessible recreational spaces. As a parent and community member, I've watched our kids struggle to find places where they can simply be kids. Riding a bike, an activity that many take for granted, is even a challenge here due to the lack of sidewalks. Moreover, while we do have a walking trail, bicycles and skateboards are prohibited, leaving our young people with limited options.
The land from the Old High School is currently idle and represents a golden opportunity for us to provide a much-needed facility for our youth—a skate park. Skateboarding is an increasingly popular sport that offers physical exercise, social interaction, and a healthy outlet for creativity and energy. Converting the old school grounds into a skate park would not only address the severe lack of recreational spaces but also foster a stronger sense of community.
Research from the Tony Hawk Foundation underscores the benefits of skate parks in communities similar to Woodsfield. Not only do they reduce crime rates and increase community engagement, but they also provide a specialized space for children and teenagers who may not participate in traditional team sports.
Economic data suggests that community skate parks can also attract visitors from surrounding areas, boosting local businesses, and potentially increasing municipality revenues through tourism and events.
To make this vision a reality, we propose forming a committee to assess the feasibility and costs associated with developing a skate park. We believe that with community support, local government cooperation, and potential sponsorships from local businesses, we can transform the Old High School land into a thriving recreational area benefitting every resident.
Join us in advocating for this positive change. Help us provide our children with the safe, engaging space they deserve. Sign the petition to convert the old high school land into a skate park for the future of Woodsfield's youth!
