The Issue

In February 2022, The Russian Federation launched an unprovoked invasion of its neighbor Ukraine.

In the four years since the start of the invasion, Russia has committed deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, sexual violence, forced deportation, torture of Ukrainian Prisoners of War (POWs), and the kidnapping of over 20,000 Ukrainian Children. The United Nations OHCHR has verified the deaths of over 15,000 Ukrainian civilians and the wounding of over 40,000. UNESCO has verified damage to over 508 Ukrainian cultural sites. The crimes committed by the invading force are extensive, endorsed by the highest authorities, and are tantamount to Genocide. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued a warrant against Putin for crimes against humanity, genocide, and war crimes.  High ranking military officials Sergey Kobylash, Viktor Sokolov, Sergei Shoigu, and Valery Gerasimov have been served with warrants for their roles in the crimes.

In response to these crimes, over 1000 corporations, including 40 Global 500 corporations have completely withdrawn from Russia. Over 700 corporations have suspended their services within Russia, including 21 Global 500 companies. Over 480 Companies are scaling back services, and another 100 are pausing investments (Source: KSE Institute)

Despite this, Valve Corporation, the largest online distributer of games in the world, continues to operate in Russia. Russian developers are free to profit from their games using the platform, and console sales (Steam deck) even increased despite the sanctions and war. As recently as June 2026, Valve even hosted a Russian Games Festival. Valve is promoting several Russian Tournaments for CSGO and TF2. This is unacceptable.

This petition demands the following from Valve:

1.      Cease promoting all Russian based Tournaments and Events

2.      Cease adding any Russian developed or published games to the Steam Store

3.      Cease selling Hardware to Russian Consumers

4.      If possible, Cease selling Russian Developed or Published games

This is not a revolutionary idea. Sony Music Group sold all assets in Russia.  IMAX, Disney, Carnival, Nintendo, Amazon, and Warner Brothers have withdrawn completely from Russia. DirectTV, Discovery, and Paramount have suspended their services. If they can do this, Valve can as well.

If you are a Russian Citizen and are upset by this message, Good. Message your Duma members. Protest in the street. Demand an end to this pointless war of aggression brought upon you by your leadership. Then, when this war is over, and the bodies are buried, we can play games.

Slava Ukraini.
