Since 2022 the transition of the leadership of the Design Futures Initiative (DFI) , communication across the network has been very limited, access to shared accounts and platforms have been cancelled, the website is down, slack not moderated, and new chapters don’t get an answer after application. In short, DFI seems dead. 

The community is regrouping and requesting change and the immediate dissolution of the Design Futures Initiative. Also, since chapters had been paying an annual membership fee yet no services or resources have been delivered, we request that that money be returned to the chapters or redistributed to a new organization governed by the people. 

We request that any contractual obligations regarding the Speculative Futures name and identity be terminated and ownership of the name be given to the community releasing them from any liabilities or obligations to DFI. 

To ensure that nonprofit organizations operate with integrity and transparency, it is crucial to take decisive action now due to your failure to comply with ethical obligations to the community.

If you are a chapter leader, co-leader or community organizer in Speculative Futures Network, Please sign this petition to demand the immediate dissolution of the Design Futures Initiative and release all chapters of their contractual obligation transferring ownership of all names associated with the organization (Design Futures Initiative, PRIMER and Speculative Futures) to the community at large which will be managed by a new team for the time being.
