Petition to Declare February as Freedom Month
To: President Donald J. Trump
We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, respectfully petition President Donald J. Trump to recognize and declare the month of February as "Freedom Month," honoring the constitutional victories that secured liberty, citizenship, and voting rights for the American Negro — fulfilling America’s founding promise of freedom for all.
For too long, February has been framed narrowly as "Black History Month," focusing primarily on individual figures without fully honoring the constitutional revolution that truly expanded American liberty.
We propose that February be rightfully recognized as Freedom Month — a time of national celebration honoring America’s Second Founding.
Historic Foundations of Freedom Month
February is the true month of American constitutional triumph:
February 1, 1865: Illinois became the first state to ratify the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery.
February 3, 1870: The 15th Amendment was ratified, securing the right to vote regardless of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
In addition:
July 9, 1868: Five days after Independence Day, the 14th Amendment was ratified, guaranteeing birthright citizenship, equal protection, and due process for all.
Together, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments — known as the Reconstruction Amendments —
represent America's completion of the ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence.
Why Freedom Month Matters
Freedom Month would:
Honor the legal victories that abolished slavery, secured citizenship, and protected voting rights.
Celebrate the Radical Republicans and abolitionists who fought and sacrificed for these triumphs.
Frame February as a month of victory, resilience, and unity, not grievance and division.
Reaffirm America’s greatness — a nation willing to correct its flaws and expand its founding ideals to all citizens.
160 Years of Freedom: 2025
2025 marks 160 years since the beginning of America's constitutional expansion of freedom with the ratification of the 13th Amendment.
Freedom Month will honor this 160-year journey of triumph over oppression, victory over injustice, and resilience in the face of hatred.
Why President Trump Should Lead This Change
President Donald J. Trump has consistently defended America's founding principles, stood for patriotic education, and opposed historical revisionism.
By declaring February as Freedom Month, President Trump would:
Honor the Radical Republican legacy — the original party of freedom and emancipation.
Celebrate America’s ability to achieve redemption and greatness.
Unite Americans around shared constitutional victories.
Freedom Month aligns perfectly with the principles of the 1776 Commission and the vision of an America proud of its story of correction, resilience, and triumph.
Freedom Month does not erase history — it completes it.
It ensures that future generations know the truth:
America’s story is not a story of permanent failure, but of courageous victory.
We respectfully urge President Donald J. Trump to declare February as Freedom Month — honoring those who made freedom real, and celebrating the America that keeps its promises.
