The issue

We, the undersigned residents and ratepayers of the Bundaberg Region, call upon the Mayor and Councillors of Bundaberg Regional Council to adopt three enduring cost-of-living principles to guide future Council budgets and financial decision-making.

We request that Council review and give ongoing consideration to:

The Non-Principal Place of Residence (NPPR) general rates charge, with a view to reducing or removing the additional charge, having regard to its impact on local property owners, renters, not-for-profit organisations and retirees.
Bulk water charges, with a view to ensuring pricing is fair, transparent and affordable for households and businesses that rely on bulk water deliveries.
The Pensioner Rate Concession, with a view to restoring the concession to its pre-2024 maximum level of $330 per annum, recognising the continuing cost-of-living pressures experienced by pensioners and concession card holders.
The Bundaberg community continues to experience significant cost-of-living pressures. Every increase in council rates and charges places additional financial strain on families, retirees, pensioners, businesses, farmers and not-for-profit organisations.

We therefore request that the Mayor and Councillors:

Publicly debate each of these three matters at the earliest available Ordinary Meeting of Council.
Formally determine Council's position on each matter by resolution.
Publicly advise the community of those decisions and the reasons for them.
Continue to consider these matters in future annual budgets and any subsequent reviews of Council's financial position.
