Petition To Ban IXL

Petition To Ban IXL
The Issue
IXL is an "educational service" that has been tormenting, not educating, the students of MCPS for over 10 entire years. AVENGE THEM. IXL has been siphoning off of the budget of MCPS under the umbrella excuse that it effectively educates, yet it fails at achieving even the most basic aspects of education, being effective only at punishment using the "smart score" mechanism (minus 10 points for wrong answers, plus 3 points for correct answers), and not positive reinforcement or encouragement of any sort. Punishment alone not only discourages students but directly hurts their GPA, as in many, if not all, cases IXL assignments are counted as actual grades. This needs to end. In the wake of the introduction of many viable third-party alternatives to IXL (Deltamath, Khan Academy, etc), IXL has become obsolete, and its fallacies as an "educational service" have been made clearer and clearer as time goes on. As IXL's monopoly over our district weakens, we should take this opportunity to free MCPS from its grip. This petition will be presented to the MCPS board of supervisors, and/or school board, with the aim being to completely cut any and all MCPS funding for IXL, effectively banning and ending IXL's unyielding monopoly over our district.
