Petition to arrest Producer, Director and Cameraman along with owner of the Elephant

The Issue

Enclosed here with is the advertisement given by the by the producer of film Bhahubali2 showing pictures of film shooting at Thrissur by using an elephant named Chirackal Kalidhasan without obtaining any preshoot certificate form AWBI as per the Performing Animals Registration Rule 2001. A press release issued by the above mentioned producer of the film, they claim that they used the above mentioned elephant for film shooting with the objective of filming certain shots of the elephant for the purpose of graphic representation of showing movement of elephant for their proposed film. For that purpose they abused the elephant named Chirackal Kalidhasan inside the compound of Pazhambuzha Temple near Chittilappilly which is six kilometers away from the Amala Cancer Research Institute in Thrissur District. For the whole period of this four hours, this elephant was forced to stand amidst the high power electric light which beam high voltage light effect for maximum colour effect for film shooting. The mahout with the elephant Kalidhasan had carried in his hand the banned weapon like ankush which is a fatal weapon to terrorise the elephant to compell it obey the commands the mahout. There was no prescence of any a animal welfare officer at the venue of the film shooting. More than 50 persons of film crew were making sounds causing high disturbances to the elephants for the four hours of film shooting. Almost all the Malayalam dailies of Kerala had published the news matter regarding this film shooting as advertisement in today’s issue. I think that your authoritative office issue strict orders to the police and other law enforcement agencies to arrest the producer of the film and the director of the film and camera man and the owner of the elephant and the mahout of the elephant for their illegal film shooting by using elephant Chirackal Kalidhasan. I also enclosed here with a copy of a video showing the mahout of elephant Chirackal Kalidhasan using his unlawful weapon ankush to torture his elephant to keep its forehead up and up for a long period of time. This type of compelling the elephant to keep its forehead up and up is a violation of the PCA Act 1960. Moreover this elephant does not have a valid owner ship certificate issued by Kerala forest department on or before 18th October 2003.
