The Issue

We, the undersigned athletes, parents, coaches, alumni, fans, and supporters of girls wrestling across Montana, respectfully ask the Montana High School Association to reconsider and appeal the recent decision to divide girls wrestling into two classifications.

Girls wrestling in Montana has grown through hard work, perseverance, and the commitment of athletes who have helped build this sport from the ground up. Keeping girls wrestling as All-Class has created one united championship standard where the best competitors from every school, regardless of size, come together to compete at the highest level.

Dividing the sport into two classes risks weakening the momentum and integrity that girls wrestling has fought so hard to establish. Instead of strengthening competition, it may dilute brackets, reduce the prestige of earning a state title, and separate a community that has grown stronger together.

We believe keeping girls wrestling All-Class will:

- Preserve the highest level of competition in Montana

- Maintain the value and prestige of a state championship

- Encourage continued growth and participation statewide

- Unite athletes from all schools in one shared competitive experience

- Honor the grit, sacrifice, and dedication these wrestlers show every season

Girls wrestling is still growing, and now is the time to continue building it—not divide it. These athletes deserve the opportunity to compete in one championship field that reflects the strength, depth, and future of the sport.

We respectfully ask MHSA leadership to pause implementation of this decision, review feedback from coaches and stakeholders, and keep girls wrestling All-Class.

Please stand with Montana girls wrestlers and help protect the integrity, competitiveness, and future of this sport.
