Petition to Airbnb: Fair Treatment and Support for Hosts

The issue

Dear Airbnb Community,

We, as dedicated hosts, are raising our voices to advocate for fair treatment, transparency, and support from Airbnb. We believe that the platform's current policies regarding host listings, review verification, and support are inadequate and unjust.

Many of us have experienced the sudden suspension of our listings without proper explanation or the opportunity to rectify any potential issues. This lack of communication and transparency not only affects our livelihoods but also undermines our trust in the platform we've invested in.

Additionally, the absence of a robust review verification system based on factual evidence has led to unfair and damaging false reviews. These reviews impact our credibility and income without proper investigation or consideration of the factual accuracy of the claims made.

We urge Airbnb to implement the following changes:

1. **Transparent and Fair Suspension Policy**: Provide clear and detailed reasons for suspending a listing and offer hosts the chance to address any concerns before taking drastic measures. Including giving hosts an option or measure to respond to listing issues and provide evidence that the issue has been rectified and for it to be removed on doing so.

2. **Evidence-Based Review System**: Establish a thorough process to verify the authenticity of reviews, ensuring they are based on factual evidence and providing avenues for hosts to dispute unfair or false reviews. The current review policy is too broad and doesn't protect hosts against those guests who are playing the system and making false accusations out of retaliation or to get free accommodation, currently enabled by Airbnb.

3. **Improved Host Support**: Enhance host support mechanisms, offering timely assistance and clear communication channels for dispute resolution.

Our aim is not to criticize but to advocate for a fair and balanced ecosystem where both hosts and guests feel supported and valued. Together, we can make Airbnb a better place for all stakeholders involved.

We call upon Airbnb to listen to our concerns and work collaboratively towards creating a more transparent, fair, and supportive environment for hosts.

Sincerely,

Brodie
