Petition to Address Mismanagement and Unsafe Conditions at Clearfield Job Corps Center
Petition to Address Mismanagement and Unsafe Conditions at Clearfield Job Corps Center
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are calling for immediate action to address the severe mismanagement and unsafe conditions at Clearfield Job Corps Center under the administration of Management Training Corporation (MTC). This petition highlights the troubling practices and unsafe environments that have been allowed to persist at the center, leading to the forced resignation or reassignment of numerous dedicated employees, and endangering both students and staff.
Key Issues:
1. **Forced Resignations and Unfair Treatment of Staff**
- Respected employees such as Brenda Davis, Lori Strong (Academic Manager), Ms. Scholes (Librarian), and Steve Rankin (Security Supervisor) have been unfairly forced out or reassigned to other departments without pay. Some of the best staff have been terminated after refusing to work in unsafe conditions.
2. Unsafe Working and Living Conditions
- The center has allowed students and staff to endure unsafe conditions, including broken washers, and poorly maintained facilities. These conditions compromise the safety and well-being of everyone at the center.
3. Mismanagement of Funds and Lack of Accountability
- It has come to our attention that the Center Director, Mr. Jim Whitmire, has allegedly embezzled over 15 million dollars in center funds. Despite this, no significant action has been taken to address these financial discrepancies or remove him from his position.
4. Neglect from the Department of Labor
- The Department of Labor (DOL) has failed to intervene in a timely manner, allowing these issues to escalate. Students have been displaced to other centers or left without support, and the center's overall environment has deteriorated.
5. Mismanagement and Corruption in Student Government (SGA)
- As a former student and safety officer, I witnessed firsthand the decline of the SGA due to corruption and mismanagement, further eroding student representation and support.
Our Demands:
1. Immediate removal of Mr. Jim Whitmire as Center Director and a thorough investigation into the alleged embezzlement of funds.
2. The appointment of new, competent leadership at Clearfield Job Corps Center.
3. Restoration of safe and fair working conditions for all staff, with appropriate compensation.
4. Immediate intervention by the DOL to ensure the safety and well-being of current students, with a plan to relocate them to safer environments if necessary.
5. An independent review of the center's management practices, with transparent communication of the findings to the public.
We believe that without immediate and decisive action, the situation at Clearfield Job Corps Center will continue to worsen, putting more students and staff at risk. We urge Management Training Corporation, the Department of Labor, and other relevant authorities to address these issues and ensure a safe, supportive environment for all.
Sign this petition to demand accountability and change at Clearfield Job Corps Center.
Be sure to share it widely to gain support.
