Petition the Parks Department to Allow Temporary Netting at Ashler Park Pickleball Courts

The Issue

Passion for pickleball has brought my friends and I to the scenic Ashler Park. However, this place of joy and camaraderie has an underbelly of potential danger and costly maintenance, hidden beneath the charm of the game. The absence of permanent fencing and gate closures forces us to confront hazards posed by balls that inadvertently roll onto other courts from directions that are blind spots to the players. These occurrences are not just a distraction; they can be a real danger. Players may inadvertently slip and fall while chasing balls down into the landscaped pebbled areas. The small pebbles often get trapped in shoes, scratching and damaging the pickleball court surface.

We appeal to the Parks Department for a short-term safety resolution. We propose the placement of temporary netting around the pickleball courts until such a time when permanent fencing and gate installations have been completed. This simple intervention would reduce the safety risks and protect both the participants of the game and the integrity of the pickleball courts.

Join me in urging the Parks Department to allow us this minor exception to ensure the safety of our community park's users and maintain the longevity of our beloved pickleball courts while the parks department takes the steps necessary to correct the fencing deficiencies. Sign the petition now and help us maintain Ashler Park as a safe space where everyone can enjoy pickleball without worry.
