The City of Bellingham has partnered with property owners to inhumanely displace over 100 individuals from an encampment off of E. Stuart and Deemer Roads behind Walmart (Edelman, 2026). This sweep is set to start as soon as August 10th and will be conducted in several phases. The City is proposing this as a solution to address criminal activity and environmental damage that pose health and safety risks without any alternatives for people living within the encampment and already they have nowhere to go.  After the Public Works department sweeps, a logging company will construct access roads for timber harvest (Tellman, 2026; Upton, 2026).

THE ASK: By signing this petition, you are advocating for the city to delay this action and adequately address the needs of unhoused populations until more humane accommodations are made for those who are displaced.
