Request Twitter not to suppress Bernie Sanders activists on its social media platform
The Issue
"What’s currently trending on Twitter?" you may ask. Well, it’s not Bernie Sanders.
There have been very disturbing signs of censorship enacted by Twitter, Inc. on its social media platform for some time now. The issue was brought to the forefront with the recent #WhichHillary fiasco. Now other users are experiencing similar anti-democratic actions made by the social media giant and evidence of this suppression is being posted on berningmedia.com.
My own experience deals with an endeavor to create a historic video archive of Bernie Sanders on Twitter by tweeting around a thousand YouTube clips of Bernie in action spanning his entire career under hashtag #YouTubeBERNS (see Official Facebook Page for more info). For about a week they have been easily queried via the search string “Pls RP: #YouTubeBERNS”. Now the same search nets up to a few tweets if one is fortunate, but as of the last time I checked on a friend’s Twitter account, the search netted none.
Is it a coincidence that Twitter’s CEO is in the tank for Hillary Clinton? It may very well be true that some of our activity on Twitter was in violation of Twitter’s TOS.
(likely possible with my #YouTubeBERNS tweets, but really - in relation to the rest of the traffic on Twitter, what was meant to facilitate referencing a video archive qualifies as what? Harassment?)
All I can say about the TOS is, “how convenient”. I wonder if this same experience is true of HRC activists? Wait — I shall digress.
Our experience on Twitter could be taken right off of a page of George Orwell. Senator Bernie Sanders is right - we are an oligarchy:
- What Happened to the American Dream?
- Bernie Sanders to Janet Yellen: Are We an Oligarchy? (5/7/2014)
- Bernie Sanders on Corporate Oligarchy (5/25/1994)
- Bernie Sanders, "America's Becoming a $Billionaire's Oligarchy"
Corporations, especially for-profit mainstream and now social media outlets, are exercising political control on all of us by making it increasingly difficult to counter their HRC-bias. This seems to be how the Establishment works and is precisely why money MUST be divorced from politics (see Wolf-Pac.com).
My question to all who #FeelTheBern - what should we do? Boycott Twitter? @BernieSanders and all those who have endorsed him use it to as a tool to help the campaign and get the BERN across, so if we decide to boycott, would we be abandoning them too? Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place.
I will say this - the suppression adds to a whole avalanche of reasons why I won't vote for Hillary Clinton (wontvotehillary.com).
So please allow me to pose the question again.
What should we do?
