Petition Opposing Tall Water Tower and Zoning Change to Height Allowance

The Issue

The Gettysburg Municipal Authority (GMA) is asking Cumberland Township to increase its 35-foot building height limit for the "essential services" to 175 feet in Cumberland Township Residential and Residential Medium-High Districts.  GMA proposes a tall water tower on a corner lot at Herrs Ridge Road and Red Oak Lane.

We, the undersigned residents and property owners of Cumberland Township, oppose changing the Zoning Ordinance to increase the height proposed by GMA which will alter the character of the neighborhood, and which will be visible from Gettysburg National Military Park, historic districts, the United Lutheran Seminary cupola, and land trust preserved properties. The GMA should pursue ground storage tanks and pumps (for water pressure), instead of attempting to drastically alter the historic skyline for not only itself but other essential services that would put up very tall structures.
