Petition Opposing Cell Tower Installation

Petition Opposing Cell Tower Installation
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Sarasota County, Gran Paradiso, Plantation Golf, Islandwalk and Fairway Village vehemently oppose the installation of a cell tower within our community at Venice East at the FPL Substation at 5503 S. Tamiami Trail. We are deeply concerned about the negative impacts it will have on aesthetics, proximity to residential homes, decreased property values, and potential health risks. We believe that implementing alternative solutions, such as locating the tower in a more suitable area or using existing infrastructure, would address the need for improved cellular coverage without compromising the well-being of our community.
Firstly, we are concerned about the aesthetic impact the cell tower will have on our surroundings. Our community takes pride in its natural beauty and picturesque landscapes. The installation of a large, unsightly cell tower would disrupt the harmony and visual appeal of our environment, significantly impacting our quality of life. Some homes would be located wellunder 600 feet from the tower, with many under 1000 feet!
Secondly, the proximity of the cell tower to residential areas raises valid concerns. Research has shown that living in close proximity to cell towers can have detrimental effects on human health. The potential non-ionizing radiation emitted by these towers has been linked to various health issues, including headaches, sleep disorders, and increased risk of certain cancers. It is our duty to prioritize the well-being of our families and neighbors, and exposing them to potential health risks is unacceptable.
Furthermore, we believe the installation of a cell tower in our community will undoubtedly lead to decreased property values. Studies have consistently shown that having a cell tower nearby can decrease property values by up to 20%. This is a significant financial burden for homeowners who have invested their hard-earned money and efforts into creating a safe and thriving community. The installation of a cell tower in close proximity to our homes will undoubtedly have a negative impact on our property values, potentially causing financial stress for many residents.
We understand the need for improved cellular coverage, but we urge you to choose an alternative solution. There are existing structures, such as tall buildings or water towers, the ball park, commercial properties, could be utilized for cell tower installation. These structures already exist within our community and can provide the necessary coverage without compromising the aesthetics, health, and property values of our neighborhood.
In light of these concerns, we urge you to deny the application for the installation of the celltower in our community. We believe that our concerns are valid and must be given serious consideration. Sarasota County government represents us, not Verizon or FPL.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope that you will consider our concerns and work towards finding a mutually agreeable solution that respects the health, aesthetics, and property values of our community.
We are asking Sarasota county commissioners to put this issue to bed, once and for all.
