Tues BOE @ 7 p.m., 40 East Dundee, Barrington, Illinois: Late Start Still Debated

The discussion by the BOE continues tomorrow night on implementing changes to start times across the district. The BOE subcommittee, with advice from Input220 and Barrington Transportation Co., disclosed last BOE meeting that it has narrowed down recommendations to 3 scenarios which it will present tomorrow to the committee of the whole. At this point, the BOE has not rejected any scenarios. As such, a 9:00 a.m.or later start time at BHS and changes across all schools are still being considered, with the most drastic changes possibly being enacted for the 2017/2018 school year. If you cannot attend, watch the live stream of the BOE meeting here: http://www.barrington220.org/Page/15437 Of note, the District figures showing how many students at BHS take an open period and a lunch period were not disclosed (a requested figure by the BOE to assist in determining whether students actually opt to have an open first period and the possible impact on late start options), but there was discussion that the figure was very small. Additionally, it is clear that the BOE continues to rely on Input220 despite concerns its members are not a fair demographic representation of Barrington area community members. The BOE did indicate that it is looking to hold a public input session slated for May 17 at BHS; however, there have been comments by the BOE that such a session will be limited to the BOE taking public comment, but there will be no discussion or Q &; A with the public.
